How long should I book an engagement party photography for?

Every party is different and it really depends on what you want to be captured. If you want pictures of the party setup before everyone arrives and you also want pictures of speeches and everyone having fun on the dance floor afterwards then you might want to book three hours. If you just want candid photos, speeches and some photos of people dancing then you might only want to book for two hours. You might want to book four or five hours and have the whole thing captured. It’s totally up to you. Most people book two to three hours.

How far ahead should I book my engagement party photography?

How far in advance you book your engagement party photography depends on when you are planning to have your engagement party. If you are planning a Friday or Saturday night then you want to book well in advance because that’s when people plan weddings and corporate events and so those days are often in demand. If you plan a week day you may not need to book as far ahead as you are more likely to find a good photographer with availability.

What’s the difference between a professional photographer and my friends with smartphones?

Smart phones have come a long way and they take nice photos. However, They are not anywhere near as good as a professional camera. They don’t do well in low light and they can’t be used with professional flash. They are not sharp when subjects are moving quickly. You can’t take full creative control over the aperture, ISO and white balance and they lack that professional look and feal that a pro camera has. Plus, you want your guests to enjoy the party rather than focus on trying to get good photos with a smartphone. Having a dedicated and experienced photographer also means that you will capture candid photos as they unfold moment by moment.

How many photos will we get and how will we receive them?

We tend to have a minimum of one photo per minute but it’s usually much more than that (minimum 60+ per hour). It depends on what’s happening and how the party goes. We provide all the photos within 5-7 days on a private online gallery that can be downloaded in high resolution for printing or sharing on social media. This allows you to easily download images and share them with friends or you can just share the entire gallery by sharing the link.
