The ED Hotel

The more we photograph weddings around Adelaide, the more amazed we are at some of the smaller wedding venues that are available. For example, the Edinburgh Hotel Mitcham, also known as the ED hotel, is an alternative option when it comes to your wedding reception Adelaide. Specialising in boutique weddings, which can be personalised to suit each couple, the Edinburgh Hotel has the capacity to cater for up to 150 guests. With the option of around four different function rooms, as well as the famous garden, the Edinburgh Hotel Mitcham is worth considering if you’re thinking of that smaller wedding reception. Venues similar in size to the ED hotel, have increased in popularity due to covid, as couples choose to have a smaller number of guests.

As photographers, we understand that not every couple wants to wait until covid has passed to have their grand, princess style wedding. For various reasons, couples are choosing to still get married, even if it means reducing their guest list.

Alternative Wedding Reception

At the end of November, we photographed the wedding of Mel & Aaron on Mount Lofty summit. Following their ceremony, they chose the Edinburgh Hotel Mitcham as their reception venue. The elegant victorian room was set up beautifully, consisting of table greenery and flowers, as well as candles. While the room was not as spacious as some venues, it was perfect for them and their guests. The room also has its own private entrance, which can be accessed directly from the street.

Couple Photography Options

The external building of the ED hotel makes for a great backdrop for couple photos, as the stone walls bring out character, along with the lamp posts and/or bench seat that can be found too. Use your imagination and you’ll get some fab photos.

The Food

Have we ever mentioned that we’re one of the fussiest eaters out there?! When it comes to eating at weddings, we’re always a little sceptical about the food and what we’ll get served. However, at Edinburgh Hotel Mitcham, the staff/chef went above and beyond to accommodate for our vegetarian requirements. Not going to lie, the food was absolutely delicious! So tasty and fresh! As you can see from the photos below, the food served looked amazing and we heard no complaints from anyone.

The Evening

There’s no doubt that Mel & Aaron enjoyed their night. We loved capturing all their candid moments and expressions as they mingled with their guests. Photos were also taken of the speeches, which were well delivered and hilarious, especially from Mel’s maid of honour and through to the first dance.

It was a great day and evening, celebrating with Mel and Aaron. We loved our time here and look forward to returning, not only for weddings, but also for a day out. We highly recommend the ED if you’re still searching for a smaller wedding reception venue option.
